Today in Road Transport, 4th February 2009

TM Logistics is completely restructuring its pay scheme, scrapping weekly pay in favour of a four-week cycle, with performance-related pay rises. Could this be the way to beat the recession?

It seems to be almost impossible to get a truckstop past the planning authorities these days: the latest victim is the proposed truckstop on the A55 near Caerwys. After a 19-month process, it looks like the application will fail.

I recall that almost the first thing I ever learned about haulage (at the age of eight or so) was that drivers didn't like loads of steel - they were dangerous and never looked all that impressive. But they can still be terribly dangerous, as the HSE has reminded us after a driver was crushed to death by his load of steel plate on a very short journey.

Meanwhile, BigLorryBlog asks "Which is better, a Nicolas Tractomas or an Ultra Pacific?" Well, as Harry Hill would say, "There's only one way to find out - FIGHT!!!"
