Today in Road Transport, 16th March 2009

There's another pre-pack administration story today, as it emerges that Northern Irish firm Tinnelly International Transport* went into receivership at the end of February, only for the assets to be bought within days by another firm, Tinnelly Transport. The latter firm was in fact set up by Kevin Tinnelly in December. This follows soon after the collapse of another Tinnelly firm, Barnes & Tipping, and the unrelated pre-pack sale of the assets of Bulmers Logistics for just £1.

Meanwhile, ex-Christian Salvesen CEO Stewart Oades has become the new president of the Freight Transport Association - we wish him luck in these, er, interesting times.

It's nice to see a transport company getting praise, particularly from as stern a voice as a Traffic Commissioner's - and Gist has been praised by Eastern Area TC Richard Turfitt for its driver training programme.

And here's a little test: just what is the Olive Mount Chord, and why is it so important to the Port of Liverpool?

* That's T.I.T. - no, really!
