Today in Road Transport, 4th March 2009

Motor Transport's Dominic Perry has just produced an excellent interview with Johnathan  Bulmer, the boss of Bulmers Transport who has been much reviled in the industry for putting Bulmers Logistics into administration and buying the 'pre-pack' assets almost immediately. Bulmer seems hurt by the criticism and says, "I just want to plead to people to give it a chance - let me put it right".

Speaking of much-criticised firms... LDV has come up with a revised bailout plan in its quest for a state-aided rescue, and the chairman of parent firm GAZ says:

"We are convinced that LDV has a viable future in Birmingham, where we have a world-class plant. The focus is very much to keep the Maxus and its electric vehicle project in Birmingham."
Good luck with that, guys.

Commercial Motor and Motor Transport have teamed up to run a survey of VOSA's centralised test booking service, to see if test lead times have improved since the last (phone-based) survey two years ago. Lead times have indeed improved, and the web-based centralised booking system works well, but beware trying to book over the phone: it seems that VOSA's call centre is rather stretched.

Both the FTA and RHA are making a fuss about the disparity in fuel price between the UK and the rest of Europe, and arguing that that is a more important issue than the European Parliament's proposed Eurovignette

The busiest thread on the TruckNet UK Drivers' Forum at the moment is Smoking in trucks - a subject that gets people really wound up.

And what do you think of this?

It's made possible by a web service called Dipity, which pulls together a number of RSS (or Twitter or Flickr or...) feeds and turns them into a 'timeline'. Pretty nifty, eh? Now we just need to find something for it to do...
