Today in Road Transport, 6th March 2009

Mercedes-Benz has launched lightweight 6x2 tractor variants of the Axor and Actros, equipped with 17.5in wheels on a mid-lift axle - tanker operator B P McKeefry is the first customer.

But Mercedes doesn't have everything its own way, even in Germany - Iveco has won a massive contract for 4,500 vans for Deutsche Post. The Daily vans will be fitted with the AGile automated gearbox, as well as diesel particulate filters (DPFs).

It's just as well that these firms are winning contracts, because commercial vehicle sales were down 51% year-on-year in February...

Those splendid fellows at the Hemmings Motor Blog are celebrating the LARC-60 or LARC-LX, as also featured on BigLorryBlog - including a video of this amphibious monster crushing a poor defenceless NSU.
