Today in Road Transport, 12th May 2009

Stobart Group has announced strong profits, defying the downturn - much of its growth has been through acquisition, but underlying revenue is still very good: Stobart reckons that its 'pay as you go' revenue model is working well.

In the meantime, over on TruckNet UK there's an ever-lengthening queue of drivers hoping to get in on Stobart's operation supporting the Brawn F1 team.

Kevin Swallow has finished a road test of the Renault Master van, which will be in this week's Motor Transport - take a look at his first thoughts here.

There's news of another successful interception of would-be stowaways at Calais - this time 17 of them in two trucks. More encouragement to have measures in place to secure your trucks...

This problem in Calais is an absolute farce. It's been going on for so long and no one seems to want to do anything about it. It is the UK that should now do more about this, as the French seem to have been doing their bit in the last few years.
