Where would I be without my Biglorrryblog anorak army? In the words of the great Alan Hansen 'No-where!' And it's certainly the case for 'quad-quad' trucks (a four-axle tractor with a four-axle trailer). No sooner do I post a picture of a US quad-quad, than Rod Simmonds sends me this one from New Zealand. It's a Mack Vision quad-quad with a 45ft log/timer deck convertible. I happened to mention that I thought a 6x4 twin-steer tractor would be a rather tricky to drive on a greasy road Rod tells me: "Yes quad-quads can, apparently, be a bit of a handful. There have been a few involved in single vehicle accidents but it's not sure whether handling was the cause. Some have gone to tag-axle rather than twin-steer in recent times. truck and trailer still best for our conditions--but many guys run trucks 24hrs so need to swap trailers...good for tyre people." It's what Biglorryblog has been saying all along.
Meanwhile, regular BLB reader Martin Phippard has also piled in with these two quad-quads snaps, the first is this Kenworth K104 rig, which comes from a mate of his who emigrated 10 years ago to New Zealand from Shepton Mallet. Or as Martin tells BLB: "'Speep-Town-Malay' as the Americans say!" Apparently, Martin's chum Keith Robertson added his own caption to the picture thus: "Never was there a truck with a bigger nearside blindspot. We've had to fit a second set of mirrors and a camera!" On the plus side it's got a C15 Cat engine and an 18-speed Fuller--the two rearmost axles on the trailer also steer so the rig has added manoeuvrability.

The second one above is a Freightliner Argosy which Martin thinks (he can't remember) comes from Australia and has a Convair tank.
