Having recently blogged on a quad-quad rig (that's a four-axle tractor and four-axle trailer) in New Zealand (where they're fairly common) I have been sent this picture by transport journo Niels Jansen who tells me: 'I was in the US this summer to photograph trucks. [Now that's what I call a real holiday] In Oregon and Washington state they also use quad-quad rigs. This splendid 625hp Cat C16 Peterbilt 379 is owned by Joel Olson trucking. It runs at 105,000lbs GCW [the normal US max weight limit on Interstate operations is 80,000lbs or 36 tonnes] and is 80ft long." Niels then concludes: "I hope this is of some interest to your viewers." To which Biglorryblog responds: are you kidding Niels?!
Nice one Niels. You always manage to seek out the very best looking gear. And of course it's also a bit unusual to see curtainsiders (ragsiders in N.A. trucking parlance)in the U.S., particularly with four axles. More of the same please!
Hey I just ran across this pic. Very nice. That happens to be truck #36. I drive for Olson trucking and we have a very spectacular fleet (about 90). The 8 axles are called Maxi's and the curtain sides are very popular in the Washington and Oregon area. Must be all the lumber hauling we do. Great site, keep up the good work.
