Biglorryblog's guide to good truck photography. A nice example featuring the Iveco Stralis

Here's another entry in Biglorryblog's occasional yet diverting mini-series 'How to take a nice picture of a big truck'. And it's rather a good one too. What am I always telling you? After three, the key to a good truck picture is 'Location! Location! Location!' (oh yes and 'context' too) and what better way to illustrate the fact that while this brand spanking new 500hp Iveco Stralis will be working mainly in the UK it will also do the odd Continental trip...So a dockland location suits the bill nicely for both those criteria. (And even if it never went further than the Isle of Wight dock cranes DO make for a great back drop.)

Now pay attention to the detail. The lighting, shutter speed and exposure have all been balanced nicely so that the driver can be clearly seen illuminated by the cab interior lights---not an easy thing to do without him appearing blurred through slight movement. The lights are on too to give it a dramatic effect, the front is nicely illuminated and there's dark sky behind to add to the impact.

For the record the Stralis Super 3 tractor has entered service with Essex based owner-driver Jeff Waghorn (BLB assumes it is he behind the wheel) and replaces an eight-year old EuroStar bought by Jeff back in 1999 which clocked up more than a million clicks on international and domestic work. So why don't more people buy Ivecos? Answers please to BLB...

Meanwhile, Jeff tells Biglorryblog:" My first impressions are that the Stralis Super 3 has re-written the rule book on driver comfort with more space to work and relax on-board, a great driving position with better ergonomics and the comfiest bunk I've ever slept in....' In fact I seem to recall that's pretty much what we said about the Stralis when we did a Truck & Driver cab kit test on it versus the mighty Scania V8 Griffin!

And for the record that's also what our five full-time HGV truck driving judges from TruckNetUK said when they voted the Stralis their 'Drivers' Choice' truck at the recent Peterborough Truckfest. And here's a picture of three of the judges inside the Stralis giving it the thrice over (it then got a bit crowded in the cab with two more judges AND Iveco's Nigel Emms so at that point BLB decided to take his camera and go..)
