If your one of those large-sized, but regional fleet operators wondering how to hit the critical mass to handle in-depth national logistics contracts, then take heart from the news that operators' consortiums and co-operatives can certainly deliver the goods. How else to explain the fact that national logistic service provider, LinQ Alliance, has achieved an 89% year-on-year increase in turnover (the second year in a row it's seen major revenue growth).
Biglorryblog has long been a fan of consortia like LinQ and Jigsaw---and why not? Made up of strong 'house-hold name' regional players, when put together (not least in terms of marketing, IT, warehousing, vehicle depots etc) they provide a potentially formidable force big enough to take on the major 'Premier League' logistics providers who have had things their own way for far too long...
Formed in 2003 by 25 of the country’s leading regional transport and distribution companies to provide an alternative to third-party logistics, LinQ Alliance has become a real powerhouse offering a range of services from supply chain management through to worldwide distribution.
Meanwhile, as well as enjoying another successful year, LinQ Alliance has reappointed Bob Terris as its chairman for a consecutive fourth year, while general manager, John McCune has been appointed to the Board. MD of Meachers Group Holdings, Terris has clearly helped drive LinQ Alliance forward.
Indeed he tells BLB: “LinQ Alliance’s success is due to our ability to create innovative, individual company packages that focus on cost savings, communication, customer service, transport synergy and optimisation. By integrating these many competencies within the Company, we have successfully produced a unique approach to supply chain management....companies which require a national player have quickly realised that we are a positive alternative, capable of providing a higher level of personal service”.
It will also not have escaped the attention of sharp-eyed BLB readers that many recruits to the various consortia are also long-standing members of the Transport Association, the ultimate self-help 'band of brothers'....and the creation of LinQ and Jigsaw would have been a natural extension to what they already do well.
