Now here's a conundrum for Biglorryblog readers. In the dim distant past BLB vaguely remembers asking a question about Bussing (the German truck maker with the trademark underfloor engine who was ultimately bought by MAN) and whether they ever made it to the UK.
There's one of them pictured above---it's called a Bussing Commander, or a Commodore, or something like that and comes from the 60s. Anyway I've had an e-mail from ace snapper Tom Cunningham who tells me: "Here's what Bob Beech reckons: The answer is a chap called Brian Watt European who hailed from the Rotherham area. Brian was an international haulier who was also famous for running Guy, in both six-wheel rigid and artic form. He once featured in Leyland's journal when he took a six-wheel rigid Guy day cab (with tilt bodywork) to what was then the Eastern Bloc."
Bob goes on to say: "He took a stand at the 1970 CV Show, which in those days was held at Earls Court. Tucked away in a corner was two Bussings. I don't believe he actually sold any, but he did operate one in his own fleet." Bob concludes: "Leave it to Brian!'
Now click through here to help BLB solve the mystery involving Bussing...
Mmmm...well there's a teaser and make no mistake. My thanks to Bob for this one and as usual I'm impressed by his extensive knowledge of the UK haulage industry past and present. So BLB anorak army...who can help with this one?
Words and pictures required! Did Bussing ever set up shop in the UK?
