South African heavy haulage outfits...special types tractors and roaring roadtrains on Biglorryblog.

mammIMG_1060.JPG

My mate Dennis in South Africa, is an excellent source of photos of super heavy haulers including one of five MAN 48.700 8x8 units operating in South Africa by MAMMOET SA. And he's also sent me a shot of a SA special types Volvo too.

Now click through here for some super Western Stars...

Dennis tells me these photos of two Western Stars heavy hitters were taken by the local representative of Western Star in SA and says: "Please don’t credit me as that is unfair on the gent from Western Star!" No problem Dennis and thanks for passing them on. Top one is tri-drive tractor. Below is a 4964 Extra Heavy Duty roadtrain tractor complete with triple dumper trailers

Hi Dennis. I take it this was taken at Richards Bay?

nicky clayton:

if this is the biggest single piece ever to be moved what about the 352 tonne casting we moved from forgmasters to goole for airbus when i worked for A.L.E. We moved it several times from forgemasters to kveaner heavy engineering then to goole docks We moved it on a 20 axle flat top between sites then used a girder set of 2x11 row nicolas axles. power came from the unipower and a faun koloss at the back and we had an ex econofrieght daf as back up. This is just one of many such moves i worked on at A.L.E as well as a stint in south africa working with rotran. Does dennis have any pics of the outfit we had out there we used 16 4 file each end 2 faun goliaths heading and 2 old pacifics pushing at the rear
