One of the hardest things to do as a truck photographer is to make a tyre look 'interesting'. Or worse yet, reckons Biglorryblog a tyre maintenance contract. Still this isn't a bad stab, as it ably illustrates the fact that the ATS Euromaster contract with Castle Morpeth Council's 148-strong fleet will cover "a diverse mix of vehicles including the Mayoral car, vans, dropsides, road sweepers, other items of plant and a fleet of more than 14 refuse collection and recycling vehicles." Moreover, it's got BLB picture must-haves like a nice tilt and interesting composition with the tractor making nice shapes.
However, my one grumble would be that the picture has been 'cropped' (that's snapper talk for framing) too tight to the point where they've lost the bottom of the tractor tyre and you wouldn't really know it was a garbage truck as the important bit at the back is missing. So remember framing is all important.
Now click through here to see how it should be done...

See what I mean? This shows it all nicely, with decent framing, tilt, a bit of moody grey filter on the sky and a cracking truck to round it all off. And you can see more of this custom-painted Scania in the next edition of Truck & Driver which comes out on Feb 7 as it's my 'Editor's Choice'. Who took the picture? Need you ask...BLB favourite lensman Tom Cunningham (I must stop being nice to him as he doesn't pay me a penny for it!). Anyway check out Tom's very own photo blog on this link.

The funny thing is... I took both of these pictures!
