Biglorryblog has been sent this picture from British Truck Racing competitor Steve Horne to let me know what lays ahead for 2008, not least as he has this brand new race truck. Steve says: “The 2008 season will be my 22nd year competing in the British Truck Racing Championships and I’ll be rolling onto the grid at Easter in my 6th Race truck---a Mercedes Benz Axor 1843 powered by a mid-mounted Mercedes OM457 straight six 12-litre race prepared engine putting out a whopping 5000Nm of torque and a fire-breathing 1,150hp coupled to a Mercedes 16-speed gearbox and a limited slip diff. Tareweight? A modest 5,500kgs.”
Naturally a truck that goes fast should have sufficient stopping power and according to Steve “It has water-cooled disc brakes all round with adjustable racing shocks and tramp bars.” How quick is it? Well how about 0-60 in around 6 seconds with 60-100mph taking only another 4 seconds longer! Hmmm…I wonder how fast it would do it with a trailer?

Steve adds: “This truck [that's the Axor] ran at the front of the European Truck Racing Events throughout Europe in its first and development year, winning the final rounds in Spain at the end of last season.” Moreover, he reckons: “This truck firmly has the ability to win the championship this year, once I’ve adapted to left-hand-drive again and its own kind of style needed drive it to success, I will be there!” Good luck Steve and may the (Biglorryblog) force be with you.

British Truck Racing Championships? Now that would be good to watch, British trucks racing.
However as it would be more accurately titled 'Foreign Truck Racing Championships', and we'd need a British truck industry that actually builds trucks in order to compete, I'm afraid I just can't be arsed to watch...
