Ukrainian transport companies 'look west' for their trucks. Biglorryblog has the story.

Word reaches Biglorryblog that when it comes to buying local distribution vehicles, Ukrainian companies are increasingly turning to European-truck makers. For instance, Roshen---one of the key players in Ukrainian confectionery...and not a lot of people know that...has opted for Renault Premium Route tractors and Lamberet semi-trailers.

Now click through here to find out more about the Renault connection..and some very sticky sweets.

Almost 25% of Roshen's confectionery is produced at its Kiev, Vinnytsia, Marioupol and Krementchug sites with the company's sweetie line-up including over 200 sweet, chocolate, caramel, biscuit, waffle, fruit jelly and cake products. Stop it! I'm salivating like one of Pavlov's pooches...With all the raw materials and finished products shipped need to be in and out mainly by road, step forward Konditer Trans and its fleet of 35 trucks. However, interestingly enough, the choice of truck depends on how far they need to travel, as Gennady Khmourov, director of Konditer Trans tells BLB. "Over short journeys (up to 6km) we use CIS-manufactured vehicles but over long distances (up to 500km) we work with Renault Premium Route vehicles." Meanwhile, for reefer work 380 Premium tractors fill the breach---but for hauling molasses in 16,000-litre tankers, the truck of choice is the more powerful 440hp Premium Lander.

And bearing in mind the 'variable' local roads, all the new trucks are specially adapted to regional use with additional reinforced pre-filters, strengthened suspension and other crucial options for working on the Ukrainian roads!

You mean a country that can easily buy, Maz, Kamaz or any Volat truck prefere buying Renault Vehicules Industriels (RVI) instead ?

I'm happy (french/family linked with Renault/and so on)... But what is the rationale behind this ?
