New Sisu trucks on Biglorryblog. Plus a weird snow-clearance truck in Finland

Sisu%20-%20Rovaniemi.jpg

Martin 'Keeper of the Flame' Phippard as returned from frozen Finland and has come back with this pictue and message:" OK, so it's not much. But at least it's a Sisu! This is one of a pair parked up at Rovaniemi airport. I believe all the gear on the trailer was used by the airport authorities and by Wabco to completely clear certain sections of deep-frozen tarmac surfaces when all the usual solutions such as ploughs failed. It would certainly appear that they haven't been used for some time (Wabco now employs and under-floor heating system for their test track) and one can but recoil in horror at the thought of all that expensive, sophisticated, not to mention highly specialised gear just deteriorating throughout an Arctic winter! And the Sisu units appear to be similarly defunct. I wonder if I could get my hands on one? Martin"

Well I don't know about you Martin but I'd much prefer this one---the mighty C600 Cat-powered Sisu which is available at 520,550 and 630hp. But what's got me interested is that this appears to be a new front grille and styling. I've taken if from the brochure pages of Sisu's website. Now click through here for another look at the magnificent C600 Sisu logger.

See what I mean about the front end. Surely it's new?

That's becouse the Sisu from the airport comes from 2nd generation E series and the ones You got from the brochure come from the current R/C 500/600 range. These vehicles could have been made 10 years apart...

Martin Phippard

Yes, you're right. (Of course!). Doesn't look much like a Renault Premium any more does it? And what lump is rated at 630-hp? I thought that the C-15 CAT topped out at 550.

The airport, aswell as the testtrack, are still being cleaned by Sisu's. The heating system is only to keep it dry, but a little help to get it clean in the morning is apreciated.

Current Sisu's, see 5th post of this topic: http://www.buzzybeeforum.nl/viewtopic.php?f=169&t=4801

It's a rather rare 6x4/4 unit, there where at least 2 of those.
I have seen those 2 blue Sisu's aswell, they where already doing nothing back in 2007.

Hey Martin...

A good friend of mine who works for the local Caterpillar dealership here on Maui says that the C-15 can be rated up to 650. Usually when manufacturers purchase engines, they can specify what model and h.p. rating they want on that particular engine and for what particular task that a vehicle will do with that engine.

Aloha from Maui!
