Richard Stanier has sent me these terrific timber truck shots and says: "I recently purchased some old press photos of logging trucks, so I thought I would share them with my fellow Biglorryblog anorakers! First up (for Rod) is a Leyland Octopus from the mid/late 1960's as operated by Alf Walling Ltd, contractors of Tauranga, NZ. It was one of three used extensively in hauling logs to the Mount Maungain Wharf for Forest Products Ltd"

"Secondly (for Martin) we have a mighty Hayes HDX 100. This was a 100 ton off - highway logger powered by a 12 cylinder Detroit Two Stroke diesel of 425bhp and drew an LT 60 logging trailer; both tractor and trailer being manufactured by Hayes Trucks Ltd. of Vancouver British Columbia where this truck was working. Just look at the guy on top of the load to get some idea of the scale of this rig!"
Now click through here for a real monster tree shifter!

"Lastly we have another BC Special - the Butler Brothers 'cab under'. We've had this before on the blog a couple of months ago courtesy of Niels Jansen, but it surely deserves another airing!"
How right you are Richard, how right you are. Does anyone else have any shots of the Butler?

Thanks for the kind thoughts and great pictures Richard.
That's what we like! Big and handsome rigs!
Good work, Richard. Do you ahve more of these?
