No doubt following on from my recent Biglorryblogs on 'Green' Volvo garbage trucks, 'Atki Pete' Lynch has sent me this picture and the following message: "G'day Brian, the diesel-electric [Volvo] recycling truck you had was pretty good. Hopefully, it sounds as good as those GM-powered, diesel-electric locos the railways are still using out here. Those supercharged V12 and V16 motors are music to the ears of any GM fan---but they might be hard to fit into your average six-wheeler!" Mmmm sounds like the old Bedford TMs run by BOC Transhield--and speaking of which does anyone have a shot of one?
Meanwhile, click through here to find out more about the above, uniquely Aussie, one-man ACCO recycling truck!

Pete goes on to say: "Anyhow, back to the present. This is the way the recycling trucks out here work. Put your all recyclables into the Yellow bin, Garden waste into the Green bin and other rubbish into the smaller Red bin. They are clearly marked so even after a lengthy BBQ you won't get it wrong. The Red bin is emptied each week whilst the Yellow and Green bins are done once a fortnight. Then they are collected by a truck which has an hydraulic arm and attachment on the LH side. The trucks are usually automatic ACCO, Volvo or Hino 6x4 types. It only requires one person to operate and he ( or she ) doesn't have to leave the cab. The trucks are dual control and they use the LH side when collecting bins and the RH side when driving back to the depot. regards, Pete." Neat trick eh?

Actually it is a "one person" recycling truck, to be politically correct. Some of the drivers are female.
