Vintage Caterpillar-powered Ford D Series downunder. Atki Pete has the picture on Biglorryblog...

D%20series.jpg

'Atki Pete' Lynch has sent me this shot of an old Ford downunder and says: "G'day Brian, Seeing as how Biglorryblog has been talking about D Series, here's one I spotted yeaterday. It has a V8 Cat and a Roadranger box. Still not sure about operating at 44-tonnes, unless it was downhill?

Pete goes on to say: "I used to drive one of these with the Ford engine and it was flat out with only 8-tons on the back!"

Richard Stanier:

That's a great looking rig, Pete. It looks as though the cab has been highered too in order to accommodate the CAT.

Peter Lynch:

I think we had the Cat 3208 offered ex factory in the later Ford Cargo. They do sound great when working hard.

Richard Stanier:

Yeah, The Ford of Australia literature lists the CAT 3208 ex - factory in Cargos. We never had that option here, they were just (!) powered by Ford, Perkins, Cummins, or even Deutz engines.
