Fancy a bit of belt-buckle bling? Ace snapper Tom Cunningham has sent me this picture and the message: "Hi Brian, do you know anyone who would benefit from one of these... ?" Errr...no not personally Tom, but I'm sure there are plenty of them out there!
Now click through here for a genuine Foden old-timer!

The picture comes from Paul Armitage senior who kindly sent me some shots of his Mercedes Actros (and that of his son) from Truckfest for inclusion in Truck & Driver. Paul says: "Our friend Tom Ward also entered his Grandad's Foden. Maybe we might get one of these pics in your mag?" Well how about Biglorryblog as a consolation for the moment?
And for a pie I'd like the year and the model of the Foden!

And registered between 1 Aug 1968 and 31 Jul 1969.

Memories of great days and becoming a certified anorak!!!Not just the 1st Foden i got into, but the 1st artic!!Foden S39 IF I REMEMBER RIGHT,Brian. The 1 i"occupied the passenger seat of was a 6x4 unit, with Gardner 180 engine with Foden,s gearbox, with 6 gears using the gearstick, then 6 more that you got from a small dashmounted"lights-indicater-type lever on the right of the dashboard by the steering wheel.Remember John always telling me that you never made any gearchanges with the dashmounted lever until the Gardner had warmed up,so he,d travel a mile of so when he set off with his load of sand or gravel for Manchester and the Tilcon Trumix plant at Trafford Park using only the main gear lever.John drove 1 of 3 identical Fodens, with 2 Scammell 6x2 units making 2 trips a day form Blue Circle Aggregates Huntley Wood quarry near Tean on the old A50 Stoke-Derby road to Trafford Park, via the A50-A34 to the M6,jtn14 just south of Keele Services, then leaving the M6 to head to Manchester on the main Altringham-Sale road to Manchester and Trafford Park.Went with John 1 trip a day,Monday-Saturday in a 6 weeks school holidays, and arfter that 6 weeks thanks to John, knew every truck on the roads and was then a certified anorak!!!
Happy times that we ain,t got today in the industry thanks to Brussels!!

It's an S36 - As if you didn't know CG, with the added bonus of Cummins power. Although how much of a bonus it was in 1967 is debatable.
