Classic crash test showing the importance of front underrun on trucks

underrun.JPG

If you are going to crash your BL Mini into the front of a Ford D-Series, then make sure it's got a front underrun bar. If not, we don't fancy your chances of walking away.

The photographs were taken at the Transport Research Laboratory in the 1980s.

Rob Smith:

Afternoon,

As towering-titan Nigel Hanwell's office junior/dogsbody, I regularly keep tabs on the old BLB. But as a young whipper-snapper, I'm obliged to drive a highly impractical yet good-looking car - in my case an '87 Mini...

...This is somewhat disconcerning! Could they have now gone for something somewhat more less made-of-cardboard?
