All hail to 'wandering Willie'! Biglorryblog's man 'North 'o' the Border' John Henderson has responded to the recent postings on Richard Stanier's immaculate Guy tractor and has sent me these pictures and the following message: "Hi Brian, Can you pass on my thanks to Richard 'The Brochure King,' for his most interesting history of the 'Big Guy.' "The JG Barrack example [carrying the delightful name of 'Wandering Willie'...wonder if he was in The Broons?] was captured on film in Glasgow circa 1971, before the urban sections of the M8 Motorway were completed, hence the queues.

John continues: "And the Christian Salvesen/ex-Daniel Stewart model was snapped in the fair city of Perth in 1975 pulling quite an unusual fridge trailer.Cheers for now, John...." And for the record this baby was christened 'Fair Maid.' Ahh yes, and if anyone else has some nice shots of old Guys let me have them...Ash?

Thanks for sending in the great photos, John. I don't think you can beat colour photos of old lorries at work in their heyday. The Barrack Guy is smashing with the roped flat trailer, traditional livery, and the Atki and F86 in the background.
Are you saying there are no queues in Glasgow now the urban M8 is used? (!)

Richard, believe it or not (outwith the rush hours) traffic in Glasgow does move better with the urban M8. In the good old days when I spent my school summer holidays in the left hand seat of many a motor, getting into Glesca' on any of the major approaches equalled big queues at any time of the day!
