Biglorryblog's man in South Africa Dennis Child is the kind of man who always takes his camera on his travels. He tells me: "Hi Brian, When I visited France a very good friend of mine took me to his MVCG Paris Ile De France gathering----a group of dedicated enthusiasts that rebuild American World War 2 vehicles. And I drove one of them Paris for 12 hours as part of Bastille Day! Best regards, Dennis. And what a nice collection of Classic Yankee GI trucks. Starting with this unusual 6x6 armoured tank transporter....and for a GI Pie what is it?

And what an impressive beast    it is..note the armoured shutters over the radiator....and windows...

andrew cooper:

as any welsh truck anorak will tell you,the picture is of a pacific tank transporter as used by iconic welsh heavy haulier "wynns".

Michael Yamnitz:

The ambulance is a Dodge, type WC, don't know which two digit number, for example WC-21.

Bob Tuck:

Andrew is right about it being a Pacific. There were generally two types of cab fitted - the armour type as shown and one called a soft skin. Guess which one you drove when you were heading for World War II action.
As well as Wynns, a guy called Rex Cadman from Kent bought about six of these during the 1980s from France. They were a regular sight parked on the main road near Sandwich and of course we did a feature on these in Truck magazine - about 20 years ago.

D Powell:

The rear picture of the Pacific clearly shows that the four wheels of the rear bogie are chain driven from a central differential.
