EMERGENCY! CONDITION RED! JOURNALIST DOWN!  Biglorryblog's favourite cloggie Iep van der Meer has coming to a grinding halt! Why? Because he's doing his Truckfest report and he urgently needs to identify the engine in this chrome-laden Peterbilt 'Double Eagle' sleeper that was on show at Peterborough.

So what is it? Cummins? Cat or Detroit Diesel?  So for an "in case of emergency" pie  what is it? And a speedy response is required BLB anorak army! Iep's story is well and truly parked-up until he has the answer.....

If the red paint on the engine is original, it could be a Cummins engine.
Caterpillar engines are painted yellow. As far as I know, Detroit Diesel engines aren't painted red.

BDV is right. Red is Cummins. Peterbilt only offeres Cummins and CAT and CAT is yellow.

Peterbilt only offers Caterpillar or Cummins engines. They don't offer Detroit Diesel. CAT engines are yellow and Cummins engines are red.

this peterbilt has been feautured in truck and driver more than once.i seem to remember it was once owned by a guy called paul scace a council surveyor from cheshire,i think?i reckon she,s a cummins.

The Series 60 Detroit was available in Peterbilts before Detroit was bought by the Germans, but the DD lumps were painted industrial machine green.

It's a painted and chromed Cat C-15, they're a pretty distinctive timing cover which is the giveaway...

Its a Cat engine. I read about it a few years ago. The owner didnt like the yellow so he stripped it all down and painted it red

Sorry for the delay in posting this, it took me a while to contact the original owner in the USA. Dave Sweetman sold it to the guy who imported it , Dave tells me
"That engine in the picture of Paul's truck is a Cat, painted red and chromed...my memory pooped out and I forgot to reply to your inquiry.
If you see Scase, tell him I said hey and drop me a line or sumpin!"

It is a 3406e cat, not a c-15

crccastellanos

Judging by the front gear cover this is a 3406 cat eng painted candy apple red. Cant think too badly of the guy for wanting his cat to at least look like a cummins

bob melrose
