Thanks to the likes of Vic Hungerford (who's a proper gold-mine of information along with my other Aussie and Kiwi contributors), and not forgetting Martin P, I now know the diference between a stem truck and a logging truck---for the uninitiated a stem truck carries the whole length of trunk starting with the base first and with the tips hanging off the back of the trailer---as the truck bumps up and down the tips can (and frequently do) touch the road.
Anyway to ilustrate the point Martin has kindly sent me these shots and the folowing message: "Brian, In answer to your question, the yellow Pacific is an off-highway 'logging' truck, the others are all 'stem' trucks." Got it!
And here are a whole passel of stem trucks for BLB readers!
Now you can see clearly what I mean about the tips bouncing down and touching the road...now click through here for more.

Nice tri-drive Kenworth, 'Oversize' load is useful on the front..presumably they tie a red rag on the longest 'stem'?!

Nice Western Star--also a tri-drive...so now you know the diffrence between a logger and a stemmer....!

No, they just spray the longest trunks with a bit of red paint at the end before they leave the forest. Also there are yellow flashing warning lights as well as the headlights on all the time, no matter the weather, time of day or loaded/empty.
