Richard 'The Brochure King' is all fired-up with the recent talk of Steyr trucks and says: "Hi Brian, good to see some blogging on the Gaydon event. Too bad you weren't around on the Sunday----it was fantastic!" Ahhh...but I have the pictures Rich so don't despair..anyway pray continue.
Rich says: "Steyr were late comers to the UK, and of course just as they were getting established MAN pulled the rug from under them. Quite a shame. Their old wedge cab must have been quite a revelation when launched back in the late 1960's and early 1970's. I've enclosed a couple of scans, the first from an early 70's brochure shows a 1490 on logging duties, as I know how much BLB readers love their loggers, and the other is a big Euroliner from the 1980's."
Now click through here to see it and find out more about Steyrs in the UK too..

Richard adds: "Nice to see Dave Lawrence's Steyr on the Blog too - Dave is a top bloke that has produced some interesting waggons over the years. The UK spec sheets for the Steyr 19S28 and 19S31 detail both models being powered by a 9.726 litre straight-six diesel developing 278 to 287hp in the first chassis and between 306 to 315hp in the latter. They also did a big V8 at the time which developed 330hp, but I don't know whether that was offered in the UK." I don't think it was---BLB!
And I agree 200% with the remark about the cab being interesting...nobody else made one like it!
