I know what you're thinking...another Magnum story on Biglorryblog? Well they are rather like buses at the moment. You wait for ages then three come along at once. Anyway, this is only 'half' magnum as Michelin has unveiled its new Michelin X Energy SaverGreen truck tyre range in an exclusive world premiere launch on the new Magnum. Indeed according to Renault: "This partnership has allowed Michelin to make a significant contribution to the Magnum's overall energy efficiency." So there. According to the PR blurb: "The Michelin X Energy SaverGreen tyres allows a vehicle to consume less fuel and therefore reduce CO2 and greenhouse effect gas emissions. This performance is becoming increasingly important for a sector of activity in which fuel (with its constantly rising prices) currently accounts for up to one third of haulier's costs."

In addition to boosting Renault's fuel economy the new Michelin tyre range is also said to providing its users with greater safety. "This safety is founded both on the toughness of the carcass and the high level of grip, even under inferior conditions (wet road surfaces)." And I find this particularly interesting because as we all know you waste a hell-of-lot of diesel on wet days just pumping the water out from under the truck's tyres...something like a 5% degradation in mpg on a heavy truck if I remember correctly...it certainly plays hell with CM roadtest results when it rains.

And how is this all managed? Click through here to find out

Well on the one hand, the toughness and endurance of the Michelin X Energy SaverGreen's carcass comes from its Infinicoil architecture, a Michelin Durable Technologies product. And on the other, the gains in pulling power and grip have been made possible by the double wave sipes, also developed by Michelin Durable Technologies. So, in a nutshell Biglorryblog? "The Michelin X Energy SaverGreen range offers a combination of safety and lower operating costs by significantly reducing fuel consumption, while at the same time providing the longest possible tyre life."
