Who says the Germans haven't got a sense of humour? How else to explain all these weird and wonderful examples from Mercedes-Benz's 'special vehicle' picture gallery. Talk about the 'Skunk Works'. Starting with this low-slung Kögel Kamag aircraft tractor with its engine and cab from a....well for a pie you tell me.
Now how about this Econic artic airport fuel tanker with what looks like a 'Guppy' behind it. But what is it? Meanwhile, with large windows, low entrance height and wide folding doors the Econic is great in the tanker role where the driver frequently gets in and out of the cab.
It's got a snow plough up the front and tows a a set of brushes up the back. Err....the ultimate carpet cleaner? No it's an Actros 2031 airport operation runway sweeper.Silly. Now click through here for a real bruiser...

And last but not least the Canadian Army puts its trust in these 8x8 heavily-armoured Actros trucks...and given the look of it, who wouldn't?

Is it a bird, is it a plane - or is it a whale? The big beastie of an aeroplane is one of five Airbus A300-600 ST (for Super Transporter) built for moving huge sub-assemblies for the Airbus family between the various factories in Europe. Now known more affectionately as the Beluga, these outsize aircraft are regularly seen in the UK at Hawarden Airport, near Chester, and Filton, near Bristol, as they collect wing and other components for transport to France and Germany.
