Martin 'Keeper of the Flame' Phippard has sent me this heavy hitter and says: "Hi Brian, w
hile you are following the heavy haulage theme I thought I would submit these two splendid pictures of a 95-tonne transformer about to leave the Port of Brisbane for Cairns. Unit is a Mack powered by a 630 Cummins and the operator is Heavy Machinery Transport (HMT). Photos courtesy of Gary Millewski who is still recovering from a horrendous operation on his leg. All the best for a speedy recovery old mate. Best wishes, Martin P." So for a pie all you Aussies and Kiwis tell me what the tractor is...a Titan?
And click through here for another shot from Gary and all the best from BLB too!

Nice big sleeper box on the back, whatever it is! nd a rather unusual looking trailer that appears to be like a jeep dolly but wit some stuff on top and the main low-loader trailer behind it. Vic, Pete and Rod...exactly what is it?

Brian, you are seeing things which are not in any way funny. True, we could all do with some close up images but the trailer (perhaps even European build)looks like a standard modular just built for the job. The US style of neck looks odd but the axles look purpose built. It doesn't seem like a jeep dolly (ie something entirely seperate from the main trailer) just a different painted neck and first pair of axles clipped onto a standard six row - albeit with a beaver tail ramp to reduce fuel consumption even more. The front bit of load may be part of the trailer power pack but it may be another bit of load. Reminds me of my police days when I chased low loader Special Types outfits who used to carry bits - and not just abnormal lumps. Happy days.

I would say a Mack Titan and some sort of donkey engine to power the trailer hydraulics.

Mack Titan around 2006 vintage.
Most likely a Drake low loader with demountable dolly connection so low clearance loads can be loaded from the front.

I know that Bob Tuck has said that that it is not a dolly between the tractor unit (a Titan, I'm pretty sure) and the rear trailer, and I'm a bit scared to argue with someone so knowledgeable, but..........have a good look at the second photo, Bob. To me that looks like a white gooseneck, part of the main trailer, resting on the coloured two-axle dolly. What do you reckon?
If you have a look at the last of Rod Simmonds' photos in a later post (the one with what looks like a D10 or D11 on the trailer), you will see a very similar trailer with the same type of motor and hydraulic pump(?) on the gooseneck, but without the dolly.
