I remember when we used to try to minimize the damage that roadside obstructions would do to vehicles (and hence their passengers). I guess that's all in the past now. Now we put objects in the road designed not to give at all and to maximize the violence done to the vehicle (and hence the passengers).

Crazy thing is that this has happened TWICE to one of our major bridges on the motorway into Christchurch, the largest city in the South Island of New Zealand. There is a rough road under the bridge (which was designed by a team that included my brother, and two times now, trucks have gone underneath and hit the bridge with diggers on the back, much like the 3rd example on the video.
