Do you want to win a pie just like this one?

The Musselburgh & Fisherrow Co-operative Society took delivery of this brand new mobile shop in 1938 - but the question is what is it based on?
Don't you feel sorry for little boy, who not only has to go shopping with his mum, but has been forced to wear girl's sandals!

And we have a winner - it's John Henderson who correctly identified it as an Albion. Check out is comment.

How about a Fordson?

The truck appears to be a Fordson 7V, the bodywork was probably by the Co-op's own body builders (I can't remember their name but they built for Co-ops and BRS) As a toddler I remember visiting an identical mobile shop based on a Karrier Bantam (pre Commer cab) chassis, with my gran and no, as it was operated by a Welsh Co-op, that isn't me in the picture.

I think the chassis may be an Albion, as the M&F co-op ran quite a few in those days. Incidentally the 'shop' is pictured outside 32 Newhailes Avenue, which by sheer coincidence was the home of local tipper operator, Tommy Blaikie who ran a very smart fleet of green liveried motors, mostly Fords with a few Guys etc. Don't recognise the formidable looking housewife and her wee laddie though. This street was probably selected as it was just across the road from the co-op's harbour side depot.
By another remarkable and totally uninteresting coincidence, Fiona and I tried to buy that very same house in 1993, but were outbid! Sadly there are no more mobile shop deliveries in that area now, ah- the power of the supermarkets!!
