Classic Atkinson trucks on Biglorryblog from Road Rat (oh alright, Seddon and Foden too)...

DSCF0365.JPG

I promised AtkiPete a treat and here it is. And I suspect Chris G will enjoy it too. Anyway, Road Rat has answered the question that Biglorryblog has been meaning to ask his beloved army for some time--namely. Was anyone going to the Classic Atkinson bash at the Leyland Museum? Well old RR has been, gone, and taken the pictures and sent them to yours truly with this e-mail message: "Hi Brian, I found these classic Atki's at the Leyland Transport museum last weekend. " Well then if we're all here, let's have a :Pie Quiz then!. Model designation of the one above please.

Likewise this one and what's the engine in it too?

Neat little Seddon..what's the model?

DSCF0389.JPG

This is defintely a 'green' truck. A 401 by the looks of it...but what were the engine and gearbox options available on it? (And who supplied the cab?) And for real clever-dicks what was so special about the chrome door handles...?

Cracking early model--but which designation and what did they cal the grille badage?

Road Rat says: "I hope you like. the blue and white one, it is from Malta according to the owner." And by that I assume he means this one rather than the seddon. Anyway he goes on to say: "There were a a couple of classic Fodens to." And if you want to see the click through here...

Here's a couple of old Fodens...let';s have the model details for them then.

Neil Temple:

Nice Atki pulling the low loader also. I always thought that the Akti and Pegaso Troner looked somehow better than their Cabtec stablemate the Daf 95.

Richard Stanier:

The door handles on the 401/411 are branded with the early versions having the classic "IH" motif on them, and later models having a black and white Big "A" design instead.

Good to see the Securicor 400 too - It's owned by my good friend Bob Edwards and he let me drive her up to Liverpool a few years ago. She goes like a train and no mistake. The badge was known as the "racing snails".

Some nice photos there RR - I would have liked to have attended that do, particularly as Ive been working at Leyland this week.

Peter Lynch:

Great photos Ratty, looks like an excellent day out. I have heard a slightly different version of what those snails were up to.

Vic Hungerford:

I know the Kiwi version started with an "F"

Chris Gardner:

Hmmmm, missing one or two answers to the BLB questions, methinks!

Bill Hunter's Hague-liveried 8-legger will be an L1586 (15 ton payload, 8 wheels, 6 cylinder), whilst his little Seddon will have a Perkins in it (it has the badge!). I don't know anything about Perkins engines, but would that be a P4?

The blue-and-white tractor from Malta is a lightweight, with the low-mounted version of the MP cab. I'm not clued-up on Seddons, but would it be a 24 Four?

Taylor's 401 is ex-MOD, isn't it? Mechanical options would have been Gardner, Rolls and Cummins, with Fuller gearbox and an IH drive axle (the RA57, I think). The 400 Series cabs were built by Motor Panels, to an Ogle design.

Another term for the original SA badge was the "mating molluscs".

Finally, the Borderer on the back of Taylor's trailer (XTF 235N) has quite a chequered history, and actually featured in the Borderer brochure when new, and owned by Canning's of Leyland.

Vic Hungerford:

I think the Fodens are either DG or FFG models, made from the late 1930s to the late 1940s
