More Seddon Atkinson Stratos on Biglorryblog---and a view from the blogosphere!

DSCF0371.JPG

Road Rat has followed up on his previous posting from the recent Classic Seddon Atkinson rally with a couple more pictures including this Strato belonging to Browns of Wem. I saw it recently at Gaydon and the Steel Boys run.  Meanwhile, after that last story Brian Stimson posted a comment via www.tnn.co.uk

Brian reckons that while alot of what everyone has said about the brand is true:"... we can't loose sight of the fact that with a few brilliant exceptions the distributor network in the last few years was pretty diabolical. It seemed to me that all they were interested in (with the exception of the few good ones referred to earlier) was making money from the parts and service from the existing but rapidly reducing truck park and not in rebuilding the Seddon Atkinson truck population." Fair go Atki lovers? Now click through here for one more...

Road Rat says: here are a couple of relics---two Stratos, that are still running! Found at the Atkinson Show at Leyland. No Pegaso trucks, probably all rotted away? Regards RR." And old RR's website can be found on  www.road-rat.co.uk or you can e-mail him at  mail@road-rat.co.uk

I see this one every week or so on the m6. Surely the best remaining (and working strato in the stratosphere... (couldn't resist that!).

See how DAFs version of the cabtec (opposite) has been extended downwards to give a flat floor.

The only thing i'm slightly dubious of is that 'superspace' roof - unless i'm mistaken, big-A never had this option. A conversion perhaps?

Rikki Chequer:

Atkinson certainly did have the cabtec space cab option, as I had one for a while with the 325 cummins and eaton (lousy cable arrangement) twin split I must admit though I saw very few others on the road. I also recall seeing a photo of a super space cab with the big A on the frontalthough that may have been a mock up

Barney:

Russell the super space cab on the S/A is a Daf one. There was a magazine article on the vehicle and it was i believe re-cabbed.

russell b hurley:

...'spacecab', yes. 'Superspace', not so sure..

The high-roof version was the 'Stratocruiser'

Barney:

I know S/A never fitted a superspace version.
But this guy used a DAF SSC and adapted it to fit the S/A hence why I said it had been re-cabbed.
