Biglorryblog regular "AtkiPete" Lynch in Oz has sent me these three shots and says: "A rather dirty (Mack) Vision in fact but I am sure your BLB lads won't find that.  Also a couple of Inters,  Regards Pete."

Vic Hungerford:

I don't believe that last photo is of a Transtar; it is just a normal S3600, commonly called in NZ the "new" S-Line. The Transtar had the same basic cab, but it was set much higher on the chassis.

And after that talk about "the ugliest truck in the world", I reckon the Mack Vision would have to come close. Mack spoilt what was quite a reasonable looking range of trucks (CH, CL, Trident, Titan) with this one; they look even worse in real life than in a photo.

Cam McFadyen:

I agree Vic,the old Transtar cab sits a bit higher.

Cam McFadyen:

Pete, not that I`d call the old fibreglass cab Atkinson ugly, they are quite impressive, and probobly the tallest truck built in Oz,but did they have some sort of competition to see how many angles and shapes you can fit into one design?

Peter Lynch:

I think you are right Vic, It is an S3600 and forget the Transtar bit. Used to drive one of them so I should at least remember that much.
The RP Atki cab was originally designed by a fellow called Marcus Cassarchis and gradually evolved over the years. Some of the changes, like the MK 2 cab. were forced by Australian regulations of the time. Not really sure that they had to be as tall as they were but certainly an impressive sight coming towards you on the road.
