As you might guess I was on my best beahviour on account of Mrs Biglorryblog...but during my week away in the Orkney Islands (truly heaven) I managed to take the odd lorry picture when she wasn't watching (not easy). For example, I spotted this immaculate 02-plate ERF ECX whilst waiting at the docks at Scrabster for the ferry over to the main island. On the return trip I saw a Mercedes Actros in the same colours. I don't know too much about the outfit----Northwards---but they have depots in Orkney, The Shetlands and Aberdeen. Perhaps BLB's Man North 'o' the Border John Henderson can help out here with some information. How about it John?
Ahh....old Scanias don't die...they just go to the Islands. I spotted this tag axle 6x2 R113 380 waiting on the quay at Kirkwall. I was just about to take a day trip ferry to Westray (one of the other Orkney Islands) and it popped up again driving off the 5:50 boat at Westray which I was due catch back to the main island. It was still pulling this old tipper trailer before uncoupling it and hauling another trailer off the ferry. It must be one of the furthest flung UK-registered Centurions around?
Here's one for all you die-hard pick-up lovers. N-reg Toyota ute has clearly see better days but just keps on going. Check out the bloody great hole in the body just in front of the rear wheel! (It's the salt air you know). The Orange and blue boat in the background is the Kirkwall lifeboat. Now click through here for a mystery off-roader.....
No matter where I go lorries still seem to follow me.....this was just down the road from my B&B in the back of beyond...but anyway I promised you a mystery 4x4 and here it is--spotted in Inverness....
Any ideas what it is? (For a pie, naturally)

I imagine the Orkney Islands were lovely but your photos wont open up, making it difficult for me to win that pie. Welcome back anyhow, Pete.

And welcome back from me too, Brian, I hope you had a great time. I thought my computer was playing up, but maybe not as I have just seen that Atkipete is having the same trouble. I can't open your photos either.

As I recall Brian, you were giving us all photography tips before you went on said holiday. Cheers Pete

RE: the mystery 4x4 (or 4x2?)
I initially thought it was the result of a quadbike crashing into a shopping trolley (could probably even pass as a modern art project - a peice of social commentary on 4x4s in Tesco's car park maybe?) but when I went to google to check my answer, it turns out I was in fact wrong.
Apparently it's a Quadzilla PGO, whatever one of those is. Looks quite fun too actually, in a razzing-round-town-in-a-high-powered-golf-buggy kind of way.

That "4x4" is a PGO Bug Rider, a 150 or 200cc made by PGO of Taiwan, who are a very large manufacturer of quite snazzy looking motor scooters and similar products. I think the Bug Rider is actually a 4x2, but they also make a 500cc Bug Racer which is a 4x4 and is used for offroad racing.
