Truck fires on Biglorryblog...whoops apocalypse No# 371..7200 volts vs a logging truck- 7200 volts wins.

Jeff Drake Logging 016.jpg

Here's a sorry site...a lovely logging truck that's had a close encounter with a fire and I have Dennis Child at ROTRAN in South Africa for sending them to me. (And for a pie can anyone recognise the make and model?) How did the fire start? Perhaps this next picture may give you a clue....?

Notice how close it is to those power lines. Apparently it happened recently near the airport at Jackson Tennesee where the driver (quite naturally) wanted to sceure his load. So he slung his logging cable over the logs to secure them---and unfortunately  caught the 7,200 volt powerline instead...

The caption with the pictures quotes the driver as saying : ".the tyres began to fry within seconds. " he was a very lucky man I'd say as he could just as easily have fried himself if he had been holding the cable...

Now click through here for more....

This shows the logs still alight and nice glowing....

You can just see the fire and rescue vehicles on the left in this shot...

I'm delighted to hear the driver was alright---I can imagine it must have been a terrifying experience...after all, what would you do? What COULD you do? I'd be interested to hear what BLB readers think....and thanks for the story Dennis.

D Powell:

I had heard a story about a Wynns or Pickfords driver who had blacked out a large area by getting a very large steelworks crucible pot tangled in various overhead cables. When asked by a newspaper reporter 'What steps did you take?' his reply was 'B****y big ones, as far away from the wagon as possible.' Bob Tuck will probably know the origin of this story.

I was also told that when driving in Europe etc be very careful of urban tunnells and bridges if they have single deck trolleybuses running through them.

Cam McFadyen:
