Wallace & Gromit and Peter Sallis...."Cracking bus Gromit!" says Biglorryblog. "More cheese Penguin?"

Grommet1.JPG

Yes I know I wouldn't  normally give any elbow room to a bus on Biglorryblog but when it's a bus that celebrates the work of Oscar-winning animator and film maker, Nick Park, clearly I have to make an exception. And to honour his achievements (which include four Oscars and three Baftas) for his Wallace & Gromit  and other feature length cartoons Stagecoach Northwest has produced a Wallace & Gromit themed Optare bus, decorated as the space rocket that featured in the film 'A Grand Day Out.'

The 'wrapped' single decker features some of the nation's favourite animated characters, including those from Nick's Hollywood blockbuster 'Chicken Run' as well as 'A Close Shave' and my favourite 'The Wrong Trousers'. So what's your favourite W&G film? 'Curse of the Weir Rabbit'?

And naturally the voice of Wallace, the great actor Peter Sallis was on hand to officially 'open' the bus. Meanwhile, Bigloryblog understands that a new Nick Park film is not far away--it's called 'A Matter of Loaf or Death.'

And for a quick pie...what was the name of Windolene's cyber dog which got Gromit banged up in jail?

Vic Hungerford:

As a Wallace and Gromit fan, I would love to see the bus, Brian, but your photos won't open (as in your next post). My favourite, I think, is "Wrong Trousers". I must agree with you about Peter Sallis too, what a fantastic actor he is, with that instantly recognisable voice.

Wendolene's (not Windolene's!) dog was called Preston, so named as that is where Nick Park lives, in the old hometown of Atkinson lorries. So there's a good link with Big Lorries and something for AtkiPete.

Cheers, Vic

Chris Gardner:

Fantastic! Like me, Nick Park is a native of Preston, although we both live and work further south nowadays.

Is the "Weir Rabbit" the tale of the rabbit that falls into a river and gets swept away??

D Powell:

I understand that a similar Optare bus shell has been fitted out as a 'Snap On Tools' van and is operated by a dealer called Laker in Surrey, therefore it might just qualify for your blog after all.

Vic Hungerford:

Got the photos open now, thanks Brian. It was great to see the photo of old Cleggie wielding the scissors, too.
