Martin 'Keeper of the Flame' Phippard has really 'stamped' his authority on this posting on Biglorryblog and to be 'frank' I can't see it being 'licked' either. Anyway Martin says: "Hi Brian, while I appreciate that you will be living the high life in Hanover this week (not that I am remotely envious you understand) I thought that nevertheless you MAY find the odd moment between press engagements to visit BLB. On that basis I wondered if readers have interesting examples of trucks on postage stamps in their collections. Or have we already covered this?Just in case we haven't, herewith a couple to get us started. Enjoy the lobsters and Champagne! Martin P."

Well Martin we have but not lately so this is a 'red letter' day for BLB. And with stamps from Tristan da Cunha too--and for a pie, who can tell me where Tristan da Cunha is..and what happened durng the 60s to it? Now click through here for more stamps...

And just for Martin here's one withy a Volvo on it....and to finish off a small one from Canada...but what's the truck featured on it? is it a Grumman?

So what other trucking stamps ands first day covers can you supply to Biglorryblog?

Dave powell:

Our own Post Office produced a stamp with a Commer PB in the mid 80s but I think that may have been a minibus so probably did not count, Guernsey produced a stamp with two Austin J4 vans and another with a Land Rover Minartic mobile radar station. Jersey produced a several old Post Office vans including a Ford Transit Luton and a Morris Minor van preserved by the Post Office's own workshop director. The only 'truck' I can think of was a Volvo FL6 Fire Appliance on an Isle of Man stamp.

Julian:

Tristan de Cunha is in the South Atlantic, nesrest island to Antartica and reached via Cape Town and the South Atlantic Survey Ships.
In the 1960s the volcano there re-erupted causing the inhabitants to be evacuated off the island. Happily they are back now.
