Brains Beer. It's what all Welshmen want says Biglorryblog.

2005 John Reeves Festival Run 2005 0231.jpg

It's a well known fact that beer makes you more clever. After all it made 'Bud' wiser...(geddit? Bud-wiser? Oh well please yourselves). Anyway having recently blogged on Brains Brewery's new Volv urban artics, Ashley 'The old Malteezer' Lovering has sent me this picture of a venerable Brain's delivery truck (and for a pie what is it?) and he says: "Seen on my Laugharne run 2005." And here's some more vintage waggons from Ashley for your delectation...I thankyew....

I don't understand your comment about Bud 'Wiser", Brian. What does Budweiser have to do with beer? Have you ever tasted it? Whatever it is, it certainly isn't beer!

I can't argue with your list, Richard, it looks pretty good to me. I would just add:

9 - Foden S.83, obviously with a Cummins engine, probably in those days an NH250.

Hi Brian, Having been born in Cardiff, it was interesting to see the reference to Brains Brewery. When I was a lad and Brains were based at the Old Brewery in Caroline Street they used to run a fleet of Bedford and BMC rigids, but would only use Petrol engines even in the early 70's . The head brewer maintained that diesel fumes would effect the taste of the beer.
I would see them every Saturday morning when my Dad would park opposite the brewery when he went into the newsagent to pick up Commercial Motor, Motor Transport The Western Mail and Private Eye . not very relevant, but an insight into Beech family life in the 60's

Dave Powell:

Brains Brewery are a major sponsor of the Welsh rugby team in the six nations championship and their name is carried on the front of the team strip, however when matches are being held in France, where alcohol adverts are strictly regulated, the team wears alternative shirts labelled BRAWN.
