Hanover, Hannover or just plain IAA?

Roadtransport.com is out in force at the 2008 Hannover Truck Show - or, to be precise, the 62nd IAA Commercial Vehicles, as it's known officially. But that's just our problem: what do we call it? To most of us, it's the 'Hannover Truck Show' or even just 'Hannover'; but that's clearly not enough to define it properly for somebody who's looking for news about it on the Internet.

We have decided to standardise on the English spelling of 'Hannover' at least (that's 'Hannover' with a double-n, rather than the German 'Hanover') but what do you call it?

In the meantime, check out all the developments from, er, the show at our 62nd IAA Commercial Vehicles Hanover Truck Show 2008 Hannover Show news page...

- Now you would think that the Germans would know the right way to spell the place, therefore the only correct spelling must be Hanover!

My instinct was to go with the German spelling too, but that's a slippery slope: before you know it we're on to München, Roma, Praha and so on.
I'm inclined to think we can't win on this one...

'...before you know it we're on to München...'

- And what's wrong with that? The Germans spell London the way we do after all.

Maybe we should have a rule whereby any country that spells our town names the way we do can have their's spelt their way. So for a kick off, it's Hanover and München but Rome not Roma and Prague not Praha!

However, I have no idea how this rule would apply to Delhi / दिल्ली !!

Lets call it the Hangover truck show, out of respect for those poor scribes who spent too long in the beer tent.

From Wikipedia:
Hanover(i) (German: Hannover), on the river Leine, is the capital of the federal state of Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen), Germany.
So they say HaNNover is the German spelling, which all the road signs to the show seemed to confirm...

MT Toby Clark

Hooray! then we've been doing the right thing! yes, you're right, of course; I think I was getting confused by the fact that the official IAA Show website uses both Hanover and Hannover (Hanover for the pages in English, Hannover in German).
