Followers of Biglorryblog will know that my chum Dennis Child has recently been over in France over-seeing the construction of his new 'Baby' -- i.e. the 950hp 8x8 Tractomas heavy hauler. And you would have read all about it in last week's edition of Commercial Motor too when it was driven by 'Clutchslip'. But after the fun comes the hard work of getting it to the docks to transport it to South Africa where it can join the ROTRAN heavy haulage fleet. Indeed Dennis tells me "The Clutchslip version has just left the Nicolas factory on route to the port of Antwerp. It should arrive in SA at the end of October." So why not just drive it to Antwerp I hear you ask? Well perhaps because it has a top speed of not much more than 30mph so it would take a hell of a long time to get there. Better to put it on the back of a low loader...(it's quite big too for normal roads!)
And there it goes...now click through here for a shot of a 'small' job Dennis did this morning....
Just a 'small' 168 tonne transformer on the move hauled by an 8x8 and a 10x10 up front and at least one more tractor at the back! Those ROTRAN guys, they don't do things by halves...
