Well how are you doing so far in the Biglorryblog 'Himmel was ist Das?' German classic truck competition? Remember there's Bratwurst up for grabs and maybe even a glass of Schnapps! So in descending order what do you make of this lot...and  want make, model, year and anything else you can tell me! Starting with the one above with an unfeasibly long bonnet...

Military rig features neat (leather!) headlamp shrouds...however, I couldn't see any snow on the tyres...

IAA vintage stuff 014.jpg...

Interesting company livery too....

And speaking of snow...(Doh! Me and my big mouth again)

IAA vintage stuff 001.jpg

Ohh easy peasy guys..only don't get too cocky...

Before you can tell me what this is..now click through here for more vintage and classic Teutonic trucks...

The rather nice lady figures on the front of many of the vintage trucks are obviously common to old German trucks...

The answer to this one is blowing in  the wind...

Nice cabover from the 70s...but what else can you tell me about it..? And the one thing that gives me pleasure blogging all this classic German stuff is knowing that the Aussies and Kiwis don't know all the flamin' answers! (or do they?)

The first lorry is a 1935 Mercedes 6500, the second is an ex-Wehrmacht Henschel 6J, the ladder carrier is a 2-stroke Krupp Mustang... The rest are easy:)

Regarding the military Henschel, Feldeisenbahn was the railway department.

You are dead right Brian, at least as far as this Kiwi is concerned; I know very little about older German trucks. German trucks were not really seen here at all until the 1418 and 1924 Mercedes arrived.

I'm still interested in seeing the photos and hearing the answers to the ID quizzes, though.

1) I'll bow to T's superior knowledge on this one. As Vic says, we didn't get any Merc in any numbers until the late 60s, early 70s.

2/3) 1936 Henschel 6J1 Lanová six-cylinder diesel engine 11,780 cc, 125 hp, 5 spd 'box top speed 65 kph

4) Looks like a KrAZ -219 which means it is probably a copy of a well known German truck?

5) Looks like a Merc 1418 but I guess it will be a Metz or something like that we don't get out here?

6) Bussing S8000 or similar

7) 1947 Hanomag ST 100 4 cyl diesel 100 hp, 8,553 cc

8) 1950ish Magirus S3500 although by the cab and squared off radiator, this may be a larger, earlier model I don't know of. The badge is a stylized M plus the spire of Ulm cathedral where Magirus was originally built. If post war, it will have a Deutz F4L.514 engine

9) If in NZ, I would go for a 1319 but who knows in Europe?

Dave Powell

The blue three axle truck is probably a Kraz but there were look-alikes made by IFA called the G5, I think that the photo may be of an early one of these, the later ones had different front wings and a slightly different bonnet assembly.

Blue Magirus is an M40?

An photo I have seen of the IFA G5 has a very sloping bonnet???

These Pictures are pretty good.
