Mobile operating theatres..here's a REALLY unusual one from New Zealand on Biglorryblog

OK what is it? Well obviously its a tractor but like one you've not seen before. But I'll let Vic Hungerford explain it all--as he sent me the phtos and this story: "Hi Brian, I was just reading a few older postings on BLB, and saw the one about the mobile medical scanner in the UK which was posted a couple of months ago. I can't remember ever seeing any photos of NZ's Mobile Operating Theatre posted on BLB, but if you have had some before from Rod, then just ignore this!" Well I haven't so let's hear more Vic!

"This Mobile Theatre travels the length of NZ on a regular timetable," says Vic, "stopping at isolated rural communities where the residents do not have easy access to a hospital. The tractor unit has a Cummins Signature engine and an 18-speed Roadranger gearbox; there's a Couplands Big Breakfast pie to whoever first identifies the make of truck. That's pretty easy really, and Rod S, you aren't allowed to enter!"

Mmmmm....BLB thinks the Mercedes stuff in the back could be a clue...is it an Argosy Vic--but with Merc headlights? Now click through here for more on this fabulous machine....

Vic goes on to say: "One of the major modifications to the unit, aside from the styling, is a 60 kva generator that runs off the PTO (power take off). It is capable of running the surgery should there be an external power failure, and is a significant feat of engineering. If power is lost, an onboard UPS provides energy while the truck automatically starts, ensuring a seamless transfer."

"The trailer unit is 2.5m wide and 4.2m in height, and when deployed it extends to 5m in width. Four hydraulic rams level the unit, and another four extend the sides out to their fully opened position." Cheers, Vic great stuff...do I get the pie? Otter and onion please! And if it isn't an Argosy can someone PLEASE identify it soon?

Olivier:

It is an Agrosy, look at the shape of the cab and the staircase, but it has had a major nosejob

rod simmonds:

too easy

Vic Hungerford:

It is (or was) of course an Argosy, which is fairly obvious by the shape of the doors in particular. Sorry, Brian, the deal was strictly for a Coupland's Big Breakfast pie; I never mentioned otter and onion.
