Royal Mail deliveries boosted by 40 new MAN TGS artics. Biglorryblog makes it a 'red' letter day

Biglorryblog has learnt that, after a detailed procurement exercise including rigorous fuel trials, Royal Mail has introduced 40 new MAN TGS tractor units to its fleet. So huzzah! And trebles all round and hats off to those plucky Bavarians! The TGS 18.400 4x2 BLS units are already going into service on customer collections and trunking operations out of Royal Mail's Birmingham Mail Centre. The delivery also marks the first time that an MAN tractor fleet has appeared in the distinctive red livery. Now click through here for the full story...

Royal Mail is reported to be "very interested" in potential savings provided by MAN's EGR 'Add Nothing' engine technology, and is conducting an extensive evaluation programme with existing marques in its fleet. Steve Walker, Head of Distribution, tells me that a reduction in running costs is top of the agenda. "Fuel economy has always been the largest running cost," he says, adding "and, with today's price of fuel at an all-time high, we'll take a look at any potential improvement in consumption. With no costs and complexities of AdBlue to worry about, MAN's is a simpler solution. We await the results from the long-term comparison with great interest." And so do I....
