During the course of an e-mail conversdation with Nick Garlick about Felixstowe Docks and container ships he sent me this picture he found on the internet of a Maersk container ship...and those are artics on the bottom left of the picture! Now here's one that Nick snapped at Felixstowe recently...kind of puts it into perspective. I've no idea where the above shot was taken..any ideas anorak army?
Now click through here for how not to lift a container off the back of a truck....

I'd filed this under W for 'whoopsy'...pic comes from Road Rat, Purports to be genuine...and shows MAN and skelly trailer defying gravity...and the moral of the story guys? Dont' forget to undo the twistlocks....

The Emma Maersk's first visit to Felixstowe was in November 2006
I can personally vouch for the likelihood that the airborne MAN photo is genuine. I've done the same myself with an Iveco. Ahem.
that shot of the emma maersk would probably have been taken in yokohamma or one of the other main pacific ports near to the manufacturing mecca,s of china/japan.this vessel does to my knowledge one regular run.across the pacific ocean in an impressive 4 days to long beach california.she carries every comodity you can get in any of her 6000 teu box,s.i was on holiday in long beach last year and was lucky enough to see her berthed there, while 11! cranes unloaded her.she,s too big for the panama canal and was commisioned by shipping giant maersk line purely for the trans pacific route,as a sad reflection to the times we live in,she and here 16 crew sometimes take scrap back or usualy just empty containers, but i am told nothing else,as there is nothing else needed!
She was a regular visitor to Europe last year, Felixstowe Europort Hamburg. You can check her voyages on the Maersk website. There was an article in the daily press when she first came as she carries something like 6000 containers.
