It's been interesting digging and delving into the latest figures from Volvo for its truck deliveries during August which amounted to 5,891 vehicles---that's up 6% compared with the year-earlier period. So far so blah I hear you say 'But how are they managing to offset the recent poor markets in Western Europe and North America eh? Do tell us that Biglorryblog?'  Well because the increase in August is mainly driven by higher volumes in Asia and Eastern Europe (up a stonking 32% in eastern Europe alone) while the Western Europe markets were down 17% last month although iornically the total Western European market YTD is still better than 2007. Go figure that one...

However, while the good folk in Gothenburg must be delighted with what's happening in the east they caution that any improvement will be "...partly offset by a negative impact from production change-over to a new product range." Indeed the Swedes go on to say: "The economic uncertainty in Europe has led to a slowdown in truck demand in several European markets. In North America the demand for trucks remains at a low level. [However], The demand remains strong in Asia including the Middle East, South America and Africa." Now click through here for the staistics... (and a nice Volvo picture...)
