Gladstone Buses.jpg

Now in case all you truckies start keeling over with fright don't worry, I've not gone all bus-tart on you. It's just that Cam McFadyen has sent me this pictuire and says: "Hi Brian, ,these are a couple of Semi Trailer buses.the photo was taken in Gladstone, Queensland a long time ago,Cam." And look closely at the two on the right and you can see they are tractors with a separate bus trailer. But (for a pie) who made them and what trucks were used up front?

Now here's another mysery mover for a pie quiz...so what is it and when do you think this was taken? Richard---any brochures on lorry buses? Now click through here to see something a bit more up to date....

One of London's finest and my thanks and acknowldgements to whoever took the picture which featires on Google images. All of which goes to prove there's nothing new under the sun. I remember taking pictures of Merc bendy-buses in Heathrow back in the early 80s. And of course South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive had some MAN bendy buses too--with a rather interesting moquette seat covering if I recall rightly..rather like the old Pottieries Motor Traction Bristol lo-deckers (aarrghhh what am I saying...?)

Couldn't tell you where the pie quiz one was taken but it is a Magirus Deutz. My best guess would be outside an Australian exhibition hall probably in the 50s.

In the top photo, the first unit appears to have a Commer Knocker prime mover while the fourth unit is an SB Bedford. These were mass produced by General Motors Holden and Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation here in the 60s. Not sure on the middle two.
I like the idea of a semi trailer bus, any grief from the passengers and you could just pull the pin and leave them to it.

I`m guessing here guys, but the first one is a Commer Knocker, the middle two would probobly be Whites, similar to Pete`s first pic taken in Sydney, they where quite popular after the war as buses, and an SB Bedford at the end
