I've been sent this scan of a restored 1950 truck by my mate Steve Brooks who also happens to be the editor of Diesel magazine in Oz. According to Steve: "It's a HB2002 model, powered by a Waukesha six cylinder petrol engine with a five-speed main and three-speed auxiliary transmission. The truck was rated for a maximum gross weight of 40,000 lb, or 17.8 tonnes in metric-speak." Mmm but who was the manufacturer? Click through here for the answer (and they've been in the news and on Biglorryblog lately)...
It's an original Sterling....

Looks like a chain drive rear end ??
What a magnificent looking bit of machinery! I've never actually seen one of the original Sterlings in real life, although I've seen plenty of photos.
Anything that looks THAT good has got to be an AUTOCAR!
The chain drive gives it away.
sterling@sternberg?
The stirlig sign gives it away
Sterling
I vote for Sterling .. for all that worth
