Forgive an old man his memories...but I was just flicking through some back copies of Commercial Motor trying to answer a reader query (Biglorryblog never rests!) when I stumbled on this advert for ERF from 27th November 2003...was it really that long ago? 'Built to go the distance' ran the proud strapline. Sadly it wasn't the case. Now fast forward to earlier this year and the last ever ERF sold. And here it is.

The 6x2 tractor went to Barry Dancer Haulage and to make it even more ironic it rolled off the production line not in Sandbach or even Middlewich, but Munich....now click through here for a few more pictures of it....

The ECT 26.480 6x2/2 BLS, with XXL cab, was delivered to the Bedfordshire haulier at the end of March, thus signalling the last new-truck registration for the ERF marque.

The last ERF ECT replaced another ERF; a 14-litre Cummins-powered ECX. The company has always maintained a staunch 'Buy British' policy, although this has proved impossible in recent years. At the time Barry told BLB "I've kept the British identity alive, though and that's important to me. Our fleet history has included a Kew Dodge tipper to help build the M6, and Leylands and Seddons in the 60s and 70s. From then, we've run a Ford Transcontinental, Fodens and most recently ERFs - the ECX has given us sterling service."

I trust it's still going strong Barry. and I'll now blow my nose and stop blubbing....so to all BLB readers, what was YOUR favourite ERF?

the best shot was a wheel in response to the wheel shot on the blog earlier,'how do you get a good shot of a wheel'well first you find a damned interesting wheel and I have one.
Don't reply see you sunday if I am over jetlag and you can tell me what 'transport news' is,your desperate attempt to hang onto your job no doubt.

My earliest truck memories are New Zealand Lumber Company ERF MV & MW Models (14L Cummins powered) loaded to the hilt with logs coming down hill past my primary school with the old Jake Brake barking REALLY LOUD, that was 1972... showing my age now... Those are my Favourites anyway!
