Road Rat has been playing with the heavy mob--ALE Engineering as it happens--and he's sent me this selection of rather splendid pictures. "Hi Brian, I thought it was time to show how Blighty moves some wide loads. Whilst we love to see those fantastic ROTRAN rigs in action, we can also do it. Road Rat was out and about with an ALE crew around South Yorkshire. It was one of three wide load movements around the area. 240 Ton object, 4 units, and a HUGE cradle to move it in. to be honest,all i can tell are the unipower,the faun and a tnt man .is it me or do these unipowers use "f" series volvo doors?

Once again I must lay claim to fame for having driven that leading Unipower in the far past. Alright it was round a field in Kent when Unipower were trying to interest the MoD in a replacement for their Scammell Commander. And OK it didn't have a trailer on - or a load anything like this massive girder trailer - but I recall it's two pedal transmission and excellent driving position meant it was as sweet as they come.
