Road Rat has been playing with the heavy mob--ALE Engineering as it happens--and he's sent me this selection of rather splendid pictures. "Hi Brian, I thought it was time to show how Blighty moves some wide loads. Whilst we love to see those fantastic ROTRAN rigs in action, we can also do it. Road Rat was out and about with an ALE crew around South Yorkshire. It was one of three wide load movements around the area. 240 Ton object, 4 units, and a HUGE cradle to move it in. Hope you enjoy the photos. Cheers. " And if you want see Ratty's website you can find it at www.road-rat.co.uk.

And what better way than to start of with ALE''s magnificent Unipower. And quite right you should show it some respect by moving the Keep Left bollard!

Not always easy getting things like this around the corner...

Amd for a quick pie quiz..there are no less than four different makes of heavy haulage tractor in this picture. Can you identify them for BLB? Now click through here for more....

Once again I must lay claim to fame for having driven that leading Unipower in the far past. Alright it was round a field in Kent when Unipower were trying to interest the MoD in a replacement for their Scammell Commander. And OK it didn't have a trailer on - or a load anything like this massive girder trailer - but I recall it's two pedal transmission and excellent driving position meant it was as sweet as they come.

There is the Unipower, 2 ex GEC/Alstom 8w Fauns & a 6 wheel Faun

Peter Lynch

Great photos, a real rats eye view of the big Unipower.

Verily, my lord, doth all this engineering finery make one feel pretty inadequate with ones own feeble kit....
