I spotted this Foden languishing outside Middleton Car and Commercials in Pickering last month. Is it an S106?
If so, I do hope it's not the one we're looking for!

Don't fret Will - it looks like an older S80 to me

That's an S80 Sleeper ex Slaters Transport of Pickering or ex Tilcon who bought out Slaters.
Either way it would be supplied by North Riding Garages(NRG) of Pickering who were owned by Tilcon and were Foden agents and Mercedes Benz car agents.

It is certainly not an S106, there's no resemblance really. It is either an S80 or an S83; I'm not sure what the differences are between those two models so maybe someone can tell us?

Brian Lomas

The early S80's suffered a problem with the floorpan seperating from the cab shell. We cured the problem and designated the modified version the S83.(not many people know that!!)

Vic Hungerford

Hi Will, thanks for that bit of information and I doubt if many people do know that! As far as I know all of the Fodens that looked like that here in NZ were called S83 models so maybe that's why I hadn't heard of that problem; I never had that problem with the Mickey Mouse one that I used to drive either.

Brian Lomas

Vic
You would not have had that problem with a Mickey Mouse (S21) as it was moulded in one piece. The S80 and S83 werev of course tilt cabs whereas the S21 was not.
